Pros: 3CCD processing for low cost, great picture, dimensions, audio features...
Cons: non-removeable lens, rough design, price - probably it's always in this section :)
The Bottom Line: recommended for small commercial and personal video production.

Great cam! thanx to 3CCD processing (Split the light into 3 beams and use 3 CCDs, one each with a Red, Green, Blue filter in front of it.)
CCD = charge-coupled device
I'm using my GL1 for small commercial video work. It's working perfectly with any professional video software on the market (FinalCut Pro, Adobe Premiere, AfterEffects etc.) Good & fast response through IEE (firewire) connection makes it easy to setup.
Doesn't give you a lot of options with lenses (you can't change your lens but you can add extra ones) but there is possibility to order some extensions and filter for your existing one, for example popular FISH EYE (http://www.centuryoptics.com/products/video/digital/dig3x.html)
Before I bought mine, I did some research on two similar cams: GL1 and Sony DCRVX2000. Maybe Sony got more features/filters (which probably you never gonna use: sepia, b/w, etc.) and advanced look, but if comes to functionality GL1 get more credits (specially with audio processing).
If you need something better you can go with XL1 but only difference is that you'll get Removeable Lens System and couple more features (...and of course price $3,700)
again...GL1 is a great product.
