Pros: Great picture quality, easy control, large LCD, color viewfinder, long life battery
Cons: Still a little bit heavy, only 10x zoom, high price, not-so-good low light performence
The Bottom Line: Valuable at that price and guaranteed quality.

| lurr's Full Review: Sony Handycam DCR-TRV27 Mini DV Camcorder |
I have owned this camcorder for a year and I felt very satisfied with it.
Very solid quality for both video image and static image. I credit this to the Carl Zeiss Lens, which is famouse for the quality. Big LCD screen makes you more confortable in capturing and playing. Color viewfinder (much different than other brands' camcorder) helps you better when you don't have enough battery. 10x zoom is generally enough but a bigger zoom will be preferred. The digital zoom, which I usually never used, is just a technique parameter to me.
Actually according to my experience, the battery life is quite enough for general usage. But if you worry about this, another battery will be enough.
One of reason that I choose this unit at that time while give up other types is that it also features a real time MPEG4 encode function. If you have a 128MB or more memory stick as I do, you can directly capture the video clips into the memory stick and then transfer them to the computer and share with friends very easily, a single USB cable is enough -- you don't even need to have another video capture card. Anyway, I still purchased another IEEE1394 capture card so that I can transfer the full size video (720*480) to the computer and then burn them into VCD or DVD.
