Pros: Size, weight, accessories

The Bottom Line: Unless you are always going to be shooting in lots of light, I would get something else. You will regret it.

| gregwelch's Full Review: Canon Elura 40MC Mini DV Camcorder |
We looked around a lot, so we thought, read the reviews, and still decided on the Elura 40MC. We own several Canon products, and like them very much. This looked good. I continued to be impressed when it arrived (BuyRiteDigital.com), in that it included several nice accessories, in particular an external charger.
However, when I started taking some video footage, I was really disappointed. In even normal (moderate) room light, the video was quite noticable "grainy". I would not call the situations I tried "low light," just moderate. Consistently we were disappointed. It was GREAT outdoors in the sunshine, but indoors, bleh. I guess the 1/6" CCD is a factor, and perhaps the small lens, and....
I hated to do it, but I paid the 15% restocking fee, and paid the extra money, and bought a Sony DCR-PC101. It is a similar form factor, perhaps a little bigger (it has a 1/4" CCD), but the video is much nicer. The colors are more saturated/vibrant, and gone is the grainy video in our kitchen and living room. I'll write a review for the Sony DCR-PC101 too.
