| skhong's Full Review: Canon MultiPASS MP730 All-In-One InkJet Printer |
I recently purchased the Canon MultiPASS MP730 for home office use. I couldn't be more pleased with it. There are many reasons that I chose this model over the competition.
Separate ink tanks
I really, really dislike the combined ink tanks that make you throw away the whole color cartridge when just 1 color runs out. That's why I like this printer. It has 4 separate cartridges. Each one is individually replaceable. Cyan runs out, replace the cyan tank. Saves money, and ink.
Separate Print Head
With my old HP Deskjet 822c printer, each cartridge consists of the print head with an ink tank. When you run out, you toss the print head and the empty tank. Wasteful.
With this printer, you can replace the ink tanks separately from the print head. You only need to replace the print head when there is an actual problem with it. This also makes the ink tanks cheaper to buy.
Auto Document Feeder
I like being able to put a pile of papers in the document feeder, and leaving. Let the machine do the feeding itself. This is great for the many faxes I tend to send back and forth.
Print quality
The print quality is fantastic. I'm comparing it to my older Deskjet 882c. The Canon has very crisp text, even in draft mode. Come to think of it, I don't think I've even used "normal" or "Best" quality, just draft. Everything looks great in draft, even vertical lines.
I have a couple of dislikes with this unit as well:
A little bulky
It is a little on the large size. It takes up quite a bit of desktop space, but given what it can do, I'll give up some space.
Somewhat Noisy
When you print, the initial feed of the paper is quite jolting. The actual printing process is very quiet though. This machine has a "quiet mode" that I always use. I don't see a difference in the quality of the output either way.
Scan Quality
The Canon doesn't do quite as good of a job of scanning as my Epson Perfection 1280 scanner. The Canon does ok, just not as good. It'll work for most things.
Conclusion
The ability to scan, fax, copy, and print with only 1 machine is a space saver for me. I have a small home office. Even though this machine may not do everything perfectly, the tradeoffs are worth it.
