The printhead on my MP 730 failed mid-way during the first year I owned the machine. The ink clogged, apparently, and the printhead could not be cleaned, but only replaced. Canon directed me to an authorized repair facility that replaced the printhead at no charge to me. The printhead then failed a *second time* in the first year of use. It took me a couple of weeks to contact Canon. When i contacted them I was about 4 days out of the warranty period. Although I let them know that the printer had failed (again) during the warranty period, they did not offer to service the machine for me. The seller (Page Computer) had a 3-month extended warranty, included as part of the price, which I attempted to then use. After almost 2 months of negotiating with them, they shipped a replacement printhead (despite confirming they had the correct address for me) to my old address, and gave me an invalid UPS tracking number. I drove to my old residence and the people there had saved the package, which they gave me. Shortly before my printer failed the first time, I recommended the series to a friend, who purchased the next version (minus the fax), I think the MP 750. The friend's unit was defective on arrival, with the copy function not working properly. Canon did replace their unit under warranty. It is possible that my problem (but not my friend's) was related to using generic ink. However, the availability of generic ink is the main reason to buy Canon, rather than another manufacturer. Overall, I am disappointed with the inferior quality of this line of printers.
