Thanks! (Reply to this comment)

I love reviews for the technophobe in me! I already have a digital camera, but it is an Olympus, and every time I pick it up I have to relearn its features and mess up so many photo ops. I have a new PictBridge enabled HP printer that I reviewed here, that in spite of its advanced features is easy to use, and it's nice to know there is an easy, reliable, relatively inexpensive camera available to use with it. Thanks for another "real world" review, Phil!

Re: Question (Reply to this comment)

Hello DJ,
Thank you for your kind words. They are appreciated. I see you have stepped up the quality of your reviews and have received consistent VH ratings, Excellent!
In reference to the camera, it is a good starter camera in that it is easy to use, has good quality , and it is priced right. I do have to say I'm not sure how you would use it for your aviation pictures. I'm not sure how it would be used therefore I would have to suggest you look into that part of use a bit deeper.
For "normal" use this camera is terrific and I have been having fun with it. I have a case for it so I could attach it to my belt. I now have the camera with me everywhere I go. The case is not a regular camera case, it's a sports case made by Timberland that I happened to have for years when I used it for a cell phone. It happens to be perfect for the camera.
Good luck in your search for a camera and keep your goals in mind.
If you have any other questions, feel free to Email me. Please place "Epinions" is the Subject area.
Best to you in all you do,
Phil

Question (Reply to this comment)
by commair03
Is this a good starter camera for a 15 year-old? I was going to be using it for my travel pictures, as well as aviation wise. Is this the right choice for me?
Your review is very detailed, and it is nice to read your reviews not only on Hotels&Travel, but on electronics. Your personality is shown through your reviews, making them exciting to read.
Thanks,
D.J.

I got one of these, myself. I was so excited, I was doing the happy baby-circles dance. For such a tiny thing, it sure has a lot of features (most of which I am still trying to figure out in my "spare" time). Kudos to you on jumping in without fear!
Wonderful review...

Dear Phil,
No not world-wide-wrestling but being connected to the world via a computer. Aww, and we're all glad you did!
Was going to suggest the rechargeable batteries, but see someone beat me to it. Also, not that I'm into self pimpage, but check out the CP-200 or CP-400 direct printers, also made by canon. I think it's something you would find useful, considering convenience and ease of use is your primary concern.
Safe year to come for you and yours big guy,
Renee

me too and what a great gift...I was hoping for one myself though I do have a digital camera that really like..One of it's features broke this week and I have been crazy trying to figure out how I was going to get my pictures downloaded into my computer so I can print them...And guess what? My gift came today, a photo printer that I do not have to hook up to my computer and can just put the memory card in a slot and print away..I couldn't have asked for a better or more timely gift..
Epinions sure does rock when they want to, right Phil?
Big bear hugs to you

Re: Nice review - get rechargeable batteries (Reply to this comment)
by popsrocks
Thanks for the welcome to the modern world!
...and even more for the heads up about the rechargeable batteries. I was reading a bit about it and it seems logical to spend a couple of dollars for them and the charger. The only problem I'll have is keeping the spares away from my daughters who would use them for their CD players.
Thanks again,
Phil

Nice review - get rechargeable batteries (Reply to this comment)
by ace01
Very thorough review. Glad you like your camera. I also am new in the past year to digital cameras and I also purchased a Canon camera (A80 model).
One suggestion. Get yourself a set or two of NiMh rechargeable AA batteries and charger. I found the alkaline batteries that came with my camera only gave me about 50 pictures, using the LCD screen) before they ran out of power.
Now I have some rechargeable batteries, and I can get at least 200 shots using the LCD all the time and the flash about 25% of the time. Then when the batteries die, I just take them out and pop in the other set which is fully charged.
Rechargeable batteries save you a lot of money and are environmentally friendly.
Get some batteries rated at 2100 mah or higher. (mah is a measure of how much power the batteries will hold. The higher the number, the longer they will last before needing to be recharged). Wal-Mart has some Energizer 2400 mah batteries and charger for about $15 I think.
Oh and be sure to get at least two sets of batteries, that way when one set dies in your camera, you always have another fresh set to pop in and keep shooting.
Welcome to the modern world!

There's Nothing Wrong With Resistance (Reply to this comment)
by colonialpara
Phil,
Don't let the PC crowd try to convince you otherwise. I resist the new all the time and I take pride in that!
My claim to fame is that I REFUSE to shoot digital (at least for now)! I love film photography and in fact, on 12/31, at the 11th hour that Nikon offered its Double Holiday Season rebate, I bought another FILM 35 mm SLR. I was so proud of myself that I wrote directly to Patti Aliventi to tell her. I could have purchased the Nikon D70, but it's an entry-level digital SLR and kinda fragile. So, I craked up the ole resisto-meter and popped for another FILM camera!
On another note though, this is a very fine review of this product! Don't let my prattlings about resisting let you think that I think less of it or digital for that matter.
Great job, but then again, all your reviews are at that caliber!
Happy New Year!
Paul
