Jenafuzzi's Full Review: Canon i450 InkJet Printer
I bought this printer to replace another Canon printer that was given to me by a friend. The old printer's ink tanks cost over $40 each, so for me, buying a new printer was a better option. I originally went looking for a multi-function machine, but as luck would have it the one I wanted was discontinued. So, needing a printer ASAP for work purposes, I grabbed the Canon i-450 after asking the clerk about the ink tanks, how much they cost, were they refillable, etc. He said, the tanks were cheap, yes they were refillable, the tank holder was replaceable and cheap as well, and that he had one and loved it.
I bought it, brought it home, set it up, and tested it. All I can say is WOW! It prints fast, clean, and true. I tried out some of the photo paper with it and it produced crisp, clean photos that looked professionally developed! And it takes up very little room.
The ink tanks are so easy to refill, that within 5 minutes of removing them, you can be printing again. It also has the option to shut down when not in use after a certain time period, it will run in quiet mode if you like, and will automatically turn on when you send a print job to it. The other feature I love about it is that after a few pages have been printed, it automatically re-aligns the print head and cartridges to maintain the color balance, as well as before it prints, and after it prints. You can also set the amount of ink left in the tank that you wish to receive the tank replacement notice.
The software that came with it is great. There are photo editors, print editors for photo sheet printing, and a photo browser. The maintenance program also allows you to keep the heads clean and set all of your preferences, which most of the printers I have owned did not offer.
The last item I truly love about it is the catch paper tray. I have 3 kids under five who love to lean on anything and everything. The tray folds up when not in use, so it keeps the temptation away from my rugrats.
