| realist22's Full Review: Canon imageRUNNER® 600 Laser Printer |
I am the Executive Assistant for a local Tribal government and am solely responsible for maintaining office equipment. Prior to our acquisition of the Canon IR 600, we had the Minolta 8010, which served us well up until 1.6 million copies. It was at this point that we had to begin looking for an equally reliable machine, but one that would better suit our needs. We were outsourcing many copy and printing jobs that could potentially be done inhouse. Thanks to the Canon imageRunner 600, we have succeeded in significantly reducing the number of tasks that we outsource, as well as the amount of machine "downtime".
We were able to purchase the Canon imageRunner 600 under a state contract so the pricing was around $15,000, with an additional $3,000 for the networking function. We LOVE the imageRunner! Our cost per copy (which includes staples, toner, and unlimited same/next day service) is 0.01 per copy. Much less expensive than the HP 4000 or Kinko's.
The imageRUNNER 600 is a high-speed, work-horse of a machine. Printing at 60-page per minute, this multifunction copier can be expanded to support full network printing functionality. Prior to our purchase of and networking of the Canon, there were about twenty of us sharing a HP LaserJet 4050 on which we would print the original and then walk it to the other end of the building to make copies of it. With the networkability, we can select all of the copier options right from the desktop and send the job to the copier. Generally, the copying is done by the time I walk to the end of the hallway. I can't tell you how freaking convenient and awesome this capability is!
The Automatic Document Feeder holds 100 pages I think, which is twice what the older model copiers can do. A god-send is the fact that ithe Cannon offers trayless duplexing, and a 2.1 GB image server, meaning that the documents are scanned once and reproduced in their entirety. For example you print a ten page, stapled document to the printer and you need twenty sets. The copier prints them set-by-set rather than printing 20 copies of page one, then 20 copies of page 2, etc. While the imageRunner offers many finishing options such as stapling, three-hole punching, z-folding, and bookletmaking. Our particular machine includes the finisher with sorter and stapler.
There are so many features that this machine offers that it's overwhelming at first! We've had our machine about two months and are now funding out all the really cool stuff it does and how to ge to them. For example, you can setup up to 100 mailboxes on the machine, and users can send documents to the copier where they will be stored in your mailbox for later printing, especially important and useful for confidential printing jobs.
The Canon imageRUNNER 600 is designed to meet the production needs of any business, especially those who are currently outsourcing quite a bit or who may be anticipating substantial growth in the future.
