| ilheifer's Full Review: Graco Ultra Cargo 8488L Booster Car Seat |
If there is one thing I am particularly picky about, it's the carseats I put my kids in. However, being a stay at home means that we don't have the income to afford very high-priced seats, but we *do* want good quality and safe items for our kids.
This booster was highly recommended to me by more than one certified car seat tech, and since my oldest needed a booster, I went with it.
If you are used to clunky carseats, this booster will delight you. It is far less awkward and clunky plus it has the added bonus of being much lighter weight and easier to get into the backseat of the vehicle. Also, since boosters tend to be lower than a typical carseat, it is much easier to kneel on when you are trying to tighten up the seatbelts when installing it. Once you have it installed correctly (which didn't take long at all), it does not move or loosen up at all, which is a good thing.
A notable feature of this seat is the way you adjust the harness once the child is in the seat. One most of the boosters on the market today, the harness adjustment is located on the harness itself, and that can be a pain. This booster has the adjuster located on the seat itself, between the child's legs, much like a regular carseat. You press a button, pull on the harness and it loosens...or pull on the strap between the child's legs to tighten the harness. I like having the adjusters on the seat itself, it just seems easier to me. The one issue I have (and have had it with *all* carseats/boosters I have used) is that sometimes getting the harness equally tight on both sides is difficult. I can't really consider this a negative for this particular booster, because as I have said, it is something I've experience with *all* the seats I have ever used. Friends of mine experience the same problem with their seats, so I know it's not user error! :)
It's not a super-cushy seat, but it's not hard as a rock, either. My son loves it, especially the little cup and snack holder, and he was very happy to get into a "big boy" seat.
I am very happy with this seat and recommend it to all my friends who are moving their older kids into boosters.
I purchased mine at Sears.com and picked it up at my local Sears store. Sears always seems to have the best price on this booster, so look there when deciding to purchase it.
