| rsung's Full Review: Bazooka EL10A-HP Car Subwoofer |
I recently installed a sub and amp in my '99 Durango. I was looking for something that was convenient to pull in and out of the car. The folding third seat made installation of a fixed speaker a real pain. The sales person suggested a Bazooka: two speaker wire clips that I was familiar with were the only things that needed to be removed in order to take the thing out for more storage. Great, I thought.
While I've been extremely happy with the amp, the bass tube has left much to be desired. It's not like it isn't loud; if anything, I get bass headaches after long drives, and the bass almost drowns out the mids and highs. No, sound pressure is not the problem. The problem is that the speaker produces very poor clarity, resulting in almost indistinguishable tones. When there are a number of bass notes produced in a short amount of time, it almost sounds like one tone. Blech!
It does seem to be pretty solidly built, and I've had none of the static/weird noises some of the other epinionists have had. It may have to do with the installation. Regardless, as good as the amp is, the sub is equally bad, leaving me with a system that sounds pretty good, so long as the bass is turned down.
I'll probably be getting rid of it soon; like my daddy always said, if you've got the shaving cream on, you might as well shave. I've spent the money for some good components, it makes no sense to scrimp on the subwoofer, because it's making everything else sound like poop.
