Whoa! This is a nice unit. Pioneer makes a nice piece to add to your vehicles sound system. The ability to play MP3s is really great! The rotary volume control needs to be spun...up!
The DEH-P5500MP is an MP3/CD player that allows you to play all your favorite CD-Rs and CD-RWs! You can also add XM Satellite Radio if you want commercial free listening and a wide variety of music at your fingertips.
The P5500:
Like most new CD players, the P5500 plays MP3s and Windows Media (.WMA) files on CD-Rs and CD-RWs. The P5500 will remember CD titles and can decode CD-text. The superb technology that Pioneer packs in the P5500 gives you a great digital suptertuner so you can enjoy clear AM/FM radio (thanks to Supertuner IIID technology). The P5500 is also XM Satellite Radio ready, all you have to do is subscribe.
Reach for the green glow and you'll find the pop-up rotary volume knob. This bad boy does fine at high volume levels, pump, pump, pump, pump it up! The display is multicolored and displays essential information as well as MP3 text in crisp easy to read colors. Pioneer's Easy EQ means you only need select your favorite EQ curve, then turn on the EQ-EX to boost the settings for more powerful sound. You essentially have 12 possible settings. Pioneer's Sound Focus EQ allows individual adjustment of the front and rear speakers. Don't even play like you don't want the bass all the way up...but just in case there are three loudness settings. The flip-down face is detachable to help ensure no one will steal your system. Pioneer also includes a handy super-slim remote control.
I was greatful that the P5500 is extremely affordable while still delivering amazing performance for the price. You'd be hard pressed to find a unit with so many features, that looks as good, and performs as well for only $199.99!
If you decide you need a multi-disc changer, the P5500's IP-Bus system will allow for great interfacing with the changer, voice command controlls and even TV tuners. If powering speakers with the P5500 you will enjoy the built-in MOSFET50 amplifier which has a 2-way crossover and plenty of power - 50W x 4-channels.

Gotta Love It:
G-G-G-Great Unit! (50 Cent would be proud!) So anyway, using this bad boy is simple and quick to learn. Less inclined might have trouble with the EQ settings and all but for simple listening pleasure it's a snap. The remote is decent, it doesn't have a very good range and it needs to be almost directly pointed at the receiver head-on, it doesn't do so hot when aiming from the side. Clarity of the sound is very good (long as you have decent speakers). I like the XM Satellite Radio feature and the multi-colored display. I really like how it has a rotary volume knob and not hard to reach volume buttons. It's easier to adjust while keeping your eyes on the road. It's nice having the disc title memory too. I haven't experienced the P5500 when it's been integrated with a CD changer unit, so I can't say how it performs there but I imagine it does well.
Final Say:
This is where I have to say whether or not it's worth your money to purchase this. What do you think? Does it have the features you want at a price you think is reasonable? I like the P5500, it's a great unit. If you have the dough and don't need a fancier unit, the P5500 should be seriously considered. I would highly recommend the Pioneer DEH-P5500MP to you.
