| Jambaj0e's Full Review: Pioneer DEH-P5500MP Car CD/ MP3 Player |
I've always loved Pioneer head-unit ever since I got an old 3000-DEH series (I believe that's what it is) about 4 years ago. I out about the 5500MP recently and loved the way the display looks. Much better than the ones they sell nowadays in retail stores (the 3300MP). I also really like the MP3 capability, which is definitely better than just getting a plain old 6 cdchanger. Once you have an MP3 player, it's hard to go back to regular CDs and whatnot. It really is a sweet looking deck.
Feature-wise, there is a good 20-25 different adjustments you can make, so you can really fine-tune the sound to achieve that perfect sweet-spot. This helped me out a lot in getting the most out of my sub, the Kenwood KSC-WA62RC (great little sub if you don't have a lot of space in your car/truck). There's plenty of power for my speakers and the FM tuner is strong enough to pick up stations from Orange County.
The only minor complaints that I have is that I wish they didn't use green lighting. They should have used red instead. Also, CD-Rs and MP3 CDs can sometimes have a little delay in reading. Finally, the arrow buttons on the right side should have raised textures so you can push the right arrow. Sometimes, I wanted to press the right arrow, only to have the down arrow being pressed instead. It would have been easier if there's a better separation of some sort.
I haven't used the XM or auxillary capabilities, so I won't comment on them.
Finally, When I bought the deck from eBay, it diddn't come with a remote (unlike if you buy it from a strore), so I bought the Pioneer steering wheel remote, and boy, it's really great to have. I rarely use the decks buttons anymore
