Pros: Sound , EQ/bass/sub out/XM controls, others to list!
Cons: High-gloss display hard to read in daylight.
The Bottom Line: I recommend that you reconsider other units and buy this one instead. So many things in one unit.

| martymcleod's Full Review: Alpine CDA-9805 Car CD/ MP3 Player |
Although I've been a Clarion buyer/user for years, Alpine at least offers XM Radio compatibility. I replaced my last Clarion DVD/CD player (DVS9755z with built-in DTS/Dolby Digital) for this unit and the Alpine AI-Net XM tuner.
I must say that I am impressed! Sound quality in CD is great, with excellent dynamic response, super-low noise, and it's easy to add bass emphasis using the MX (Media Xpander), the subwoofer control, bass EQ controls, and more. Also, it has a dedicated subwoofer output, though I haven't seen the crossover frequency listed in the manual.
Operation takes a little time for getting used to but once thats over it's rather simple. XM sound quality is very good, and XM controls are quite similar to FM tuner controls. Also the output voltage is good especially for multi-amp systems/dedicated EQ systems like mine. I don't use the built in amp on the CDA-9805, and you can turn it off! You can also turn the display off if you wish. Pretty neat!
Overall, I cannot find any *serious* grievances with this unit. For some reason Alpine has produced this and other models with displays that are difficult to read in sunlight (due to a high-gloss finish on the face). However, it looks nice at night.
A highly sophisticated, useful, and great sounding unit for less money. Go get one!
