After my Ford Taurus was totalled by a drunk driver. I decided to take over my wife's Chrysler mini van and replace it with the now discontinued Ford Freestar limited 4.2 fully loaded.
Compared to other comparable foreign and domestic models it was about $10 000.00 less.
The Windstar/Freestar had a record of reliability and safety.
I have had the van for over a year now and feel able to make a fairly accurate review.
I have had NO mechanical problems at all with the car.
The only slight irritation is the cruise control which sometimes seems to take a while to switch on. I have not had it fixed as I only use it a couple of times a year and dont want something else getting messed up.
The Engine is super powerful the van is haevy and sit very solid on the road far better than the Chryslet and way better than the Honda and Toyota.
Acceleration and crusing is superb and responsive.
Fule consumption has benn 17 mpg. but this is mostly pick up stop and start driving. Hurts with the high gas prices but it is a large car.
Took it on a long drive to Branson the car performed like a champ very comfortable leather seats.
DVD player sound sytem is superb no problem. Is just wonderful with little kids.
I expect the DVD to give problems in a year or two because we use it every day.
Paint work is superb. Electric sliding doors perform flawlessly but I can see that also wearing out due to use very convenient though.
Service costs extremelly low not more than a couple of hundred bucks in over a year basically oil changes.
The onboard computer is terrific pre warned when we had flat tires.
The tires which are low profile dont seem to be holding up well dont look like they will make 30 000 miles.
Pity Ford stopped production of this excellent car.
