I recently purchased a 2005 Jeep Liberty Renegade. For the most part, I am pleased with my purchase.
I was looking for a more capable SUV that still maintained some car-like qualities. I looked at such offerings as a Kia Sportage and Sorento, the Honda CRV, a Nissan Xterra, Saturn Vue, etc. I discounted the smaller SUV's like the CRV and Sportage because they could not do things like tow a trailer, etc. The Jeep certainly can do that, but it still maintains a mostly car-like ride (there is a little bounciness on the highway).
I have a black Renegade w/ the 3.7 engine. Styling-wise, it is a clear winner. The automatic transmission is quite smooth. There is a bit of wind noise, but less than most SUV's. The 4-wheel drive is easy to use. The interior is quite pleasant, and the seats are very supportive. I highly recommend the Sirius radio option - it costs less than having it installed after-market, and you get a free year with a new Jeep. Gas mileage is horrible, but it is what you'd expect from this type of vehicle. Handling is also what you'd expect, although it is more smooth than I anticipated. Clearly, the Renegade is more "off-road" than a Limited model, but it costs thousands less and offers more capability for the dollar, especially when considering the rebates offered.
