Bought a 2005 SE V6 in November of 04 when they first came on the lot. I searched virtually every manufacturer and vehicle style before I finally found the Camry SE. The "SE V6" features are really what made me lean towards this car. It has the engine & suspension performance that is not expected from a Camry, but it also has that smoothness & reliability that buyers expect out of a Toyota. I'm a 28 year old guy (no kids) and the thought of buying the Camry stereotype along with the car was a little unsettling. But I feel like I found a secret when I bought this car, and very few people who are looking at the Altima, Maxima or Accord are considering the Camry as a somewhat sporty performance vehicle. One of my buddies just picked up a couple year old Maxima and he raved about the Camry being an all around better car. He couldn't believe the 60 to 90mph acceleration ease, and all the while feeling like we were only going 55.
This car has the same engine as the Lexus ES330, has 17 inch wheels, 240 lbs of torque, sport suspension, 6 disc in dash changer, and all of the other normal (but nice) features of Toyotas. I'm not a small man, but I fit in this car fine. My wife likes riding and really notices the difference between the quietness and smooth ride over her 2003 GM sedan. My only complaints are the loudness of the speakers and the heated seats. The speakers are JBL and the quality is fine, but at higher volumes the bass fades away - too early in my opinion. The dual heated seats work fine, they just take a little longer to warm up than other vehicles I've been in. Living in a cold state, this is something that could be improved. Perhaps different levels of heat or something.
But those smaller things aside, this is an awesome car and "if" I look for an upgrade someday, it will be that 280hp Avalon.
