Luxurious Bargain

by lotus5112: Written: Dec 18 '07

Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Reliable, standard, safety, re-sale value, and low noise
Cons: Gas mileage for the V-6.
The Bottom Line: This car is definitely a quality car. The ride is smooth and quiet. It has the feel of a luxury car but at an affordable price.

As a 20-something year old, most of my peers are not interested in a car like the Camry. Most individuals are seeking a sportier or budget type car. What I like about this car is that it can appeal to all sorts of people. The ride is where the camry exceeds expectations. It feels as if you are floating on a cloud. Compared to the Honda Accord, which my sister drives, this car has a more refined feel.

Driving and Handling

This car has a strong acceleration. You only have to press the gas pedal lightly in order to accelerate the car. The engine appears to be quiet and works efficiently. There is no zippiness when it comes to driving this car. There is no difficulty in entering the fast Southern California freeways. The handling can be a little cumbersome. It appears that the Camrys are continuing to become larger and longer. The longer body promotes a relaxing ride, but yet handling is compromised.

Safety

The safety in this car is what makes this car more enjoyable to drive. Surely, I can drive a smaller car that can weave through traffic. However, this car feels stable and solid. When objects and debris litter the freeway, the camry is unaffected by driving over it. This car has all the standard airbags, that I hope I will never have to use.

Comfort

The comfort of the Camry is what differentiates this car from others. The ride is often so smooth, that you can be driving high speeds without even realizing it. I have driven in the 80's and did not notice it until I looked at the speedometer. Road noise is also very minimal. The speakers in the car provide clear euphonious sounds. Also, when driving over poor condition roads, the camry minimizes the bumps. This car may not have the affluence or prestige of luxury cars, but inside the camry, it feels definitely luxurious.

Trunk Space

The trunk space is also a plus to this car. There is more than ample room to fit three golf bags in the trunk. The rear back seat folds down, so that you can add poles or other long objects.

Gas Mileage

Since, I purchased the V-6 model, the gas mileage is lacking. In Southern California driving, which consists of a mix of freeways and street driving, I only average approximately 20 MPGs. This is probably on the lower end of the MPG spectrum because I drive somewhat aggressively. In retrospect, I probably would have purchased the V-4 version of the Camry for slightly better gas mileage.

The only problem

The only problem I had with this car is that a compartment between the driver and passenger's seat continues to open. I will close it, and then it will re-open. This could be extremely annoying. I had to put a jacket or some cloth over it to keep it from opening up. Eventually, I took it to the dealer to get it repaired. I thought I was the only person to have this happen, but apparently a number of Camrys have had the same problem. Nevertheless, it was an easy fix and the dealer did not even charge.
