I have been looking at the Toyota Tacoma PreRunners for about two years on e-bay waiting for the right truck to come along. I had no intention of buying a new truck due to the loss in value as you drive it off the lot. But the more I searched and saw what was happening with the sale of used 2005's, 2004's etc. I came to the conclusion that these trucks hold their value real well. For example, I watched a 2005 PreRunner sell for 23,800 on e-bay!! It was then that I decided, with my wife's encouragement, to look at a new 2005 PreRunner.
I did my homework, went to the dealer with invoice pricing in hand, made a deal at 3% over invoice and I'm now driving the one of the best mid size pickups built.
I like almost everything about the truck. We just got home from a 3 hour round trip to Kansas City. The ride is supreme and the seats are very comfortable. I have a little back trouble so this is important to me. The more powerful 4.0 liter engine has plenty of get-up and go. The turning radius was surprisingly tight. Handling is effortless. My wife even commented about that! The engineers at Toyota corrected the goof that the other models had with the clock being blocked by the steering wheel. The instrumentation, gauges, etc. are very easy to see and use.
What I enjoy the most is the comfortable ride and more room the 2005 has as opposed to the smaller and rougher riding older models.
What I dislike isn't much. But one thing I had to get used to was the rear seat headrests interferring with the view out of the rear window. The rear seat headrest were in the way. I say "were" because my solution was to remove them until I have company in the back seat.
