| rfish's Full Review: Chivas Regal 12 year old whisky |
Back in 1968 I went into a bar in New Jersey with some of the members of the crew of my ship. We were in dry dock and were on afternoon liberty. I remember ordering a whiskey and soda and one of my friends asked if I'd ever drank Scotch before. I said that I had not but had heard that Scotch tasted awful and that I wouldn't like it. Well, one thing led to the next and a dare was made. My shipmate ordered a shot of Chivas Regal, on the rocks, for me to drink. What a shock, I really enjoyed it!!! Before the night was over we had consumed a quart with ease and were looking for more.
Next Day Hangover
When I got up the next morning I had expected a whopper of a hangover. My second surprise was that I didn't have one. Due to these good experiences with Scotch, and Chivas Regal in particular, I've chosen Chivas Regal, most of the time, when I wanted Scotch. I like to drink it with either club soda or on the rocks, depending on my mood at the moment. I heard of people drinking it with cola but to date I haven't had the nerve to try it.
Long Distinguished History
Chivas Regal comes from Chivas Brothers LTD distillers Aberdeen Scotland. Established in 1786, the Strathisla Distillery, has had the honor of distilling this high quality malt whiskey since it was founded in 1801. It is the oldest malt whiskey distillery in the highlands of Scotland. Chivas Regal Scotch Whiskey is aged a full 12 years in oak casks and has been done so for over two centuries.
Tastes Smooth, Tastes Great!
There are a few other blended Scotch whiskeys on the market today that are equally as good as Chivas Regal (Johnnie Walker red or black label) but none I like any better. It is smooth and almost sweet to the taste, with very little bitterness. Each drink from the first to the last glass is smooth and clean to the taste. Chivas Regal has an alcohol content of 43% by volume (86 proof).
Sit back and enjoy one of the truly great sipping blended Scotch whiskeys on the market.
