I've owned a Compaq Presario 2700 Pentium III laptop for 14 months. I HATE it!!!
Physical Attributes:
The 2700 is hard to carry because it is so heavy. The corners and sides are smooth and rounded, so it is also hard to grip when trying to pick up the laptop. The USB ports, etc. are on the back and are covered by a flimsy plastic panel which flips down for access. I rarely access my ports, and yet the panel is already breaking off.
Reliability:
I've had the laptop in the shop 3 times already for repairs. The keyboard has been replaced twice. The first time, three keys fell off the third week I owned the laptop. The store would not return my money, and they insisted on "fixing" the laptop. My third keyboard is currently working - however, the keys on it were sticking repeatedly for quite a while. Now the keys are fine, but I'm sure I'll be getting another keyboard soon. Thank God I bought the extended warranty on the machine.
At random intervals, the machine will also suddenly lose all power. The store where I bought the machine (CompUsa) cannot duplicate the problem, so they can't fix it. I've been assured numerous times that I do not have a virus on the machine. I suspect that the problem is related to over-heating. So.... at any time, I may lose power and crash.
The internal fans are loud and the noise is annoying. My husband won't let me use the machine in bed because the fan noise keeps him awake!
Overall:
I am truly disappointed in this machine. I will NEVER buy a Compaq brand of anything again. As soon as I can afford it, I will be purchasing another laptop and trashing this one.
May 2005 My Compaq died twice last month, and the extended warranty was used to fix it both times. (Over-heating problems). It died AGAIN last week (bad mother board), and I went out and bought a Toshiba Satellite laptop.
