| ak3183's Full Review: Compaq Presario 1720US PC Notebook |
I got my Compaq Presario 1720us during the Christmas of '02, and so far it's been just fine. I was attracted to this computer for its desktop-replacement features and price. This computer has a 1G PIII-m, competent enough to run most programs, a 20GB HD(relatively small to today's standard), a standard 256MB RAM, and a 14.1" display. Running Windows XP, with all the Service Packs, it rarely crashes at all. However, there was one thing that concerned me during the first few months using this laptop, the Combo drive wouldn't recognized a DVD or CD-R, and I ignored that problem. But later that year I was able to play movies and burn CD's again(what was the problem? I have absolutely no clue). The 1720us has been running just fine since then, until recently, when I see the displays on a lot of the new laptops, it feels to me that my display is so dark. I don't know if LCD gets less bright after years of use, or is it just that new technology has made displays brighter? Other than that, I have no complaint for this computer at all, it's been a pleasure to use it for the past two years.
