Pros: The concept started out good.
Cons: Bug riddled firmware and awkward design
The Bottom Line: Avoid it at all costs. The product should never have been released.

| pushbutton's Full Review: Compaq iPAQ PCD-1 Personal CD Player |
Right out of the package my new PCD-1 just wasn't 'quite right'. The product has numerous design and firmware issues such as:
- The electronic skip protection (ESP) actually CAUSES the unit to skip as well as add pop and clicking noises to the audio. If you don't use ESP, the product skips if your neighbor's cat burps. Don't even think of it as 'portable'
- The menuing system frequently locks up requiring a device reset. (Resets require pulling the batteries)
- Frequently it will lock in 'reading disk' mode - but never even spin the disk. Guess what - reset again...
- Compaq tech support is blissfully ignorant about this product.
- THE PROBLEMS ARE COMMON TO ALL RELEASES OF FIRMWARE AND THE COMPAQ USER COMMUNITY MESSAGE BOARDS ARE RAMPANT WITH DISAPPOINTED USERS TRYING TO GET RESOLUTION (still).
An honorable company would recall this feeble attempt into new territory by replacing the unit with a TDK Mojo, and then never going down this path again.
There are plenty of good MP3/CD players out there - this is not one of them.
