Pros: speedy, USB and Firewire support, easy installation, quiet.
Cons: No on/off switch, gets alarmingly hot, and watch that power cord!
The Bottom Line: This drive works, but I'm less certain of it's stability since it failed so easily - good warranty services though. I would recommend looking for another drive.

I have mixed feelings about this drive, part of me enjoys the 2-3 months of good performance, and ease of installation, but then part of me hates the lack of an on/off switch, the way it overheats, and the fact that mine failed today. It could be my fault, though, I did accidentally kick the plug under my desk, killing the power to the drive. After I got it plugged in, it would no longer mount, and started making strange chirping noises (Driving me crazy!) I found that my computer was able to detect the drive, but unable to mount it, even after trying several different drive-fixing programs. The Western Digital website is not very mac-friendly (I'm running a flat screen imac) repeatedly asking you to use their lifeguard software, and their diagnostic tools (both are exclusively PC). But the warranty service is quite good, I was able to find out I was still under the original warranty, and have them send me a new replacement drive without moving from my comfy chair. Should I have kicked the cord? No, I shouldn't. Should the drive be able to handle a sudden loss of power? Yes! what happens when there's a power outage, or any other interruption of power to the drive? Now I get to play the getting-my-files-back game, (which looks promising - using Data Rescue, I can actually see all the files, all intact) In closing: This drive needs to be handled with care, and perhaps it would be wise to buy the extended 3 year warranty... and back up everything on some other HD..
