| myopinionwrks9's Full Review: Cowon Systems iAUDIO CW300 (256 MB) MP3 Player |
I've had this player for close to a year and can honestly say it's still working perfectly. I'd recommend it to anyone who's not going to listen to gigabytes of music at a time, and just wants something for listening to in the car, at home, at work, etc. It comes with all the goodies you'd expect cheap companies would leave out - like a leather case with a surprisingly good belt clip, headphones, a battery, another case with an armband for working out - or if you're some kind of undercover agent, wearing to work and recording work conversations. The voice recording is awesome, radio reception is good and radio recording is unheard of, who would have thought that could be put on an MP3 player. MP3 playback is superb, I listen to songs through this unit because it sounds better than it does coming out of my computer. All in all, it's expensive but worth it completely for what I want. Look at the features, if it has everything you want, you'll be as happy as I am. If you want to carry around your whole music collection... Getting a portable harddrive like an iPod would be much more cost effective. That's not what I'm looking to do, and I think that's not what a lot of people are looking to do either. This thing really does everything, and does it really well.
Pros:
- Nice interface with computer.
- Quick downloads to player.
- 256 MB seems to be just enough for music that I listen to at any given time.
- Very lightweight, the AA battery is by far the heaviest part, could easily jog/run with it (though I never have).
- Very reliable, connection to computer has never failed (unlike earlier Rio products).
- Awesome sound quality.
- Nice display, and it has indiglo! I constantly use that feature.
- Has numerous options for playback, repeating individual songs, one album, all songs, or random.
- Has radio, radio recording, voice recording, and Mp3 playback! When I bought this I couldn't find any other player that had all 3 features incorporated so well especially in so small a unit.
- Autooff feature that saves battery. When player goes off your position in a song is saved (turn it off by holding down the pause button).
- Can playback any song or voice recording at 80%, 85%, 90%, 95%, and of course 100% normal playback speed. Nice for learning languages.
- Excellent battery life
I use this player as my stereo. I have Altec lansing 621 speakers with a phono input, and I connect it to my iAudio and my room shakes. I've had the player close to a year and it's still working perfectly. I take really good care of it though, so I don't know how long it would last with someone who runs with it daily. It has superb sound quality, decent radio reception, and great voice recording.
Cons:
- Doesn't let you change up play order without connection to your computer.
- Doesn't have a play setting for playing a single song, only the remainder of an "album." There are 4 albums, basically directories for organization of your mp3 files. You can repeat songs within an album, randomize songs within an album, play all songs within an album, and do the same for all songs in all ablums.
- The remote might be worth getting to save from slight aggravation. The remote plugs into the same port as do the headphones or speakers your putting the sound out to. When you unplug your headphones and then plug in your speakers - the player things that the remote you don't have is sending the signal to change songs, so mid song it will change to some other random song - if you plug something in while playing. This can be annoying.
