Why buy a home DVD player for 250 plus dollars when you can get one for your computer for 100-150 bucks? I highly recommend this combo especially if you have a dolby digital 5.1 receiver and a TV near by your computer with s video inputs. Even if you do not have a 5.1 receiver the card automatically downmixes to stereo. This is all built right into the dxr3 decoder card. It is quite an improvement over the dx2 because it now uses hollywood magic plus decoding which can get up to resolutions of 1600 x 1200. The actual drive is very fast. I play many DVD games with it and they have incredibly fast seek times and information retrieval times. It was very quiet for DVD also. If you play CD roms in it, it gets a little louder but not much. If you want the quality of a component home DVD player in a cheaper, versatile, feature packed device then look for the Creative Labs dxr3/dvd12x combo.
