| jrrglobe's Full Review: Creative Technology Nomad IIc (32 MB) MP3 Player |
The best thing about this player is that it completely integrated with iTunes (a driver is included for PC users). You just connect the USB cable from the Nomad to your computer, launch iTunes, and a tiny icon of the player shows up in the side menu of iTunes. From there you can drag and drop mp3 and WMA files on the icon from your iTunes library or from anywhere on your computer.
A slightly inconvenient aspect of this player is that iTunes recognizes the 32MB built-in memory separately from any expansion card you may install. Your expansion card will show up as a separate icon in which you must manage a completely different playlist. The files are organized sequentially, and can't be rearranged after you've dropped the files on the icon, so the sequence in which they are dropped is the play-order (the player has no shuffle function).
One big drawback of this player is that is does not play the high quality AAC format. That is the format in which music files are encoded when they are downloaded from the Apple Music Store, which is also completely integrated with iTunes. The only player that I know plays this format is the much more expensive iPod. However, there is a way to get around this. You can burn these AAC formatted files to a CD as mp3s, then copy them back to your library.
The player has a robust set of functions. It has a battery monitor, adjustable backlit display and contrast setting, voice recorder, viewable playlist, repeat, and date/time. The display shows bit-rate, song title, artist, and elapsed time for each file. The volume control is conveniently placed on the side of the player and the volume level is adequate. It is very light-weight and has a belt clip.
