mirandae's Full Review: Cuisinart CPT-180 Metal Classic 4-Slice Toaster
I really wanted a good-looking stainless steel toaster that worked properly. Our old one was very fickle; set too low it wouldn't brown; set too high and you'd have homemade charcoal. After some online research, I started homing in on this Cuisinart. I read the reviews (good and bad), I was so swayed by the looks of this toaster that I decided to give it a try. Straight out of the box, this countertop appliance is nice looking, but that's about where my infatuation ends. My kids (7 & 8)were so excited to pop their frozen belgian waffles in the new fancy toaster (they too complained about the old one), and sadly they were disappointed. With the setting on 2 and the defrost button on, my daughter's 1st waffle was seared to practically black on one side, and barely toasted on the other. My son at that point wisely chose to go with oatmeal. "My fault", I said and promptly turned the setting to 1, turned the defrost setting off, and popped in another one. That one popped up way to soon after the lever engaged, so my hopes were not high. Of course, this was not toasty at all and I could feel how cold the waffle still was in the middle. Next, we set it to between 1-2, turned the defrost button on again thinking, okay this has to do it. Result: slightly less burned on one side than waffle #1, still not toasty on the other side and cold on the middle. Since I am now out of waffles, and my son has decided to stick with oatmeal for a while, this bimbo of a toaster is going back to the store and my search for a toaster that offers style AND performance will begin again. Some of the reviews on this site actually did warn buyers of this malfunction and I should have paid attention.
