I really wanted to like Cybermercs. I was very excited when I found it--a SciFi RPG with a violence level like a FPS. I had visions of a blend of Quake and Final Fantasy, with a smidgen of "Alien" (the movie) added for spice.
But what I got when I installed and played Cybermercs was disappointing. The graphics are OK, and I love the opening interface, where you maneuver around the home base and equip your hero/heroine. But beyond that, the controls were awkward at best, and you really couldn't interact with the environment as much as it seemed you could. Things that look like they could have been opened/broken/pushed to reveal secrets and clues were just stationary scenery. Things that could be interacted with didn't actually have a purpose above and beyond making noises and flashing lights.
Your character is difficult to control, and a pain to move around. The mouse controls are shaky. Killing monsters is very hard, and once you master the odd controls you find you have a high chance of missing the target, regardless of how well you're aiming.
The graphics are OK, but it looks and feels low-budget. Even Hexplore delivers a far superior interface and rotating viewing system. The sounds weren't even worth comment, in fact, I can't even *remember* the sounds and the music, they're that memorable.
There's basically no plot and no guidance as to what the point of the entire game is. That's disheartening, as it was billed as a RPG. Multiplayer arena combat looks promising, but I never did find anyone to play the game with...it's just too obscure, and not available on the free gaming services online.
All in all, I would say wait until this one hits the clearance shelf, and then buy it if you're bored and have no better games to play.
