Pros: Small, nice picture, nice sound, affordable; I like playing with the zoom feature.
Cons: Does not escape the dreaded layer change/pause.
The Bottom Line: There's not a valid reason to pass on this one and get a cheap unit. You won't be sorry with the RP-82.

| the_penguin's Full Review: Panasonic DVD-RP82 DVD Player |
Last September, my DVD player decided to stop working, so I had no choice but to get a new one. After some research, I decided that I'd get the RP-82. That has to be the single best decision I've made in my life.
This little guy has not failed me yet. Not only that, but it decodes CD's better than my cd player. The zoom feature on the remote is fun to play with. It spreads the widescreen picture and makes it full-screen. Now I hate full-screen movies, but I just like playing with the feature.
The RP-82 puts my Philips DVD player to shame. Picture is so much more crisp. The sound is exponentionally better. I swear, Saving Private Ryan sounds like a totally different movie on the RP-82.
It plays SACD's, DVD-Audio, Mp3's and VCD's. I haven't tried the DVD-Audio, and I know of nowhere to get a SACD (I'm just about convinced they don't exist); but it plays the VCD's and MP2's just fine.
