Pros: Faroudja DCDi, Progressive scan, DVD-A
Cons: No real zoom modes
The Bottom Line: Average viewer will NEVER notice the difference vs older DVD player quality, on a progressive scan HD(component hook up)TV.

| forgottenrebel's Full Review: Panasonic DVD-RP82 DVD Player |
I purchase the RP82 to upgrade from my older Hitachi DVD based on reviews on the net.
TO SUM UP:
On a 34" HDTV 16:9 Progressive scan TV...
Looked great , but so did my old Hitachi DVD ???
Had to CLOSLEY A/B it to see difference.Average viewer will NEVER notice.
I guess on much LARGER tv's is where the progressive scan and Faroudja DCDI must shine as I did find and do the compare/test for the Chroma bug, found it quite noticable on toy Story menus, BUT as with most other DVD's (turn down satuartion 10% ) and your mostly fine. Progressive vs interlaced was mostly unnoticeable with an already progressive tv but again with a larger TV or and older interlaced Tv this will help ALOT.
Unless your REALLY, REALLY PICKY and have the extra cash...
You won't really notice the difference form older DVD players unless you are in the Bigger tv or Interlaced group.
If ya got a 16:9 43" proggressive scan CRT TV like myself then your fine with the old DVD player, and better to wait for the up-res to HD quality DVD players that are coming end of summer 2003 !!!
Good machine, but if ya alrady got a DVD player than wait.
