About Me: The Laughing Man In The Devil Mask

New Release By The Devillock Himself.

Written: Sep 11 '02 (Updated Jan 01 '03)
Pros:Hard, Bluesy Rock with Attitude
Cons:None
The Bottom Line: Recommended, this release is his best by far. Suggested listening if you like: Monster Magnet, Nick Cave, Misfits or Samhain.

Glenn Danzig is an enigma, fiercely determinate in pursuing his creative and artistic visions. He has spent his life challenging the constraints of an established structure of societal beliefs.His many releases embody this passion and drive and there is not merely one characteristic that defines his musical persona.

All seven releases to date have no traditional/consistent sound equation, Danzig's voice contains a sonorous tone, that has been described as anything from Jim Morrisson, to Elvis Aaron Presley to more a Nick Cave type of croon (especially within this release).

His professional style is similar to that of his personal attitude; direct, unsettling, ominous and original.

The best description I can give of this release, (for fear of misinforming the masses) would be an eclectic selection of songs, that cannot possibly be streamlined or lyrically defined. The meanings are as individual to the listener as the music.

As follows, a song-list with some minor comment:

Danzig - 777:I Luciferi

1. Unendlich - Instrumental assault,possessing an eerie, soothing type of build up, similar to something contained in his previous orchestral release 'Black Aria';

2. Black Mass - Beat driven & blues orientated;

3. Wicked Pussycat - The most playful song on the album? Its definitely the happiest song on the record - if it's even that.....(first single - apparently a strip club favourite);

4. God Of Light;

5. Liberskull;

6. Dead Inside - Starts off as an acoustic song, drilling into a fully fledged bone crushing epic, resplendant with a cool chorus;

7.Kiss The Skull;

8.I Luciferi;

9. Naked Witch;

10. Angel Blake - Danzig storytelling at its best;

11.The Coldest Sun;

12. Halo Goddess Bone;

13. Without Light, I am - Diverse in nature, its vocal style and instrumental use fluctuate regularly (even including a recorder), - If I'd only learned the damn thing in 4th grade, I may have had a gig with the dark angel himself..?

Danzig:
Glenn Danzig - Throat, Keyboards & Guitars
Todd Youth - Lead Guitar
Howie Pyro - Bass
Joey. C - Drums (Has since left the band - replacement sought)
