Obviously since this system can be configured to order, the performance is going to depend on your order. I purchased this system to take with me my first year of college. I wanted a desktop with high performance that wouldn't take up too much room in my freshman dorm room. I configured my Dell 4600c to have a 2.8ghz Intel Pentium IV with Hyper threading, an 80 gig HD, 1gb dual channel PC3200 RAM (you can go up to 2gb if you use PC2700), and a DVD/CD Writer. I multi-task often and this system is great for that (usually running AOL, 3-10 windows of IE, itunes, MS Word, and a few bit torrents at any given time). The system had empty PCI and AGP slots (both low profile which can be very hard to find) so I was able to modify the system to play video games. I have had a few problems with the optical drive (didn't function correctly out of the box). I replaced it with a faster drive, which worked fine until I reformatted the system.
