Pros: A lot of pretty (although empty) options.
Cons: THIS THING WILL FREEZE UP FASTER THAN A DUCK POND IN COLORADO!!!
The Bottom Line: Your computer should be your best friend, not your worst nemesis. This one will stab you in the back every chance it gets. IT'S THE BRUTUS OF SOFTWARE---BEWARE!!!

| jmaslinisahack's Full Review: Dell Dimension 8400 (D84L1) PC Desktop |
This has to be the most schizophrenic PC ever released into the market, I swear! I am highly trained in the use of computers, be they PC or Mac. I am college-trained and work-experienced (I'm a journalist) on every bit of software you could possibly name: Quark, Adobe, Microsoft Word, Excel, pretty much any desktop or Web publishing software, print shop, you name it, I can dazzle with my proficiency in it. However trustworthy I may be, it means nothing (NOTHING!!!) if my tools prove traitorous. I can bore you with jargonish details which mean little to me and nothing to you, or I can give you practical information, capsulized in a word: BEWARE!!!
First, it takes forever to load up individual counts on this puppy. Much longer the more software you have on it, and much, much longer if you have more than one account open. I'm serious. You can step away, moisturize yourself tip to toe, take your turtle for a stroll round the block, letting him call the velocity of your constitution, wait for the Middle East to resolve itself into a puddle of love AND THE STUPID THING WILL STILL BE LOADING!
It glitches easy. How easy? If you have more than 25 jpeg-saved pictures saved on this computer, loaded directly from a camera and not from the Web, so there's no chance of a virus, it will still glitch up fast as fast can be.
Okay, there are a dizzying array of options, yes, from the customization of the desktop (fade-in, shadows, Windows XP design), but these slow the bloody thing down even more.
I swear, this is the most ploditudinous, slogging piece of machinery going back to the "supercomputers of the 1960s". You want something more efficient? Pick a Mac, any Mac. Macs are infinitely more reliable. Do not pick the DD 8400. It will thwart you every chance it gets. It will freeze up. It will chortle at you. I'VE HAD IT FOR ONLY SIX MONTHS and I thoroughly hate it with every fiber of my being, but I'm stuck. Can't afford anything else. Don't make my mistake! Consider yourself warned!
