| lebeit's Full Review: Dell Inspiron 1000 (i1000S1) PC Notebook |
After reviewing endless budget laptops, I decided on an Inspiron for packed features with low price. I bought mine from Ebay for $599 + shipping and insurance, total $647. For that I got the newer model with the 15" diplay, Celeron 2.2Gig, 256 Ram, 35Gig Hard (although ad said 40), 3 USBs, CD/CDRW/DVD, and some extras like Sysco Wireless card (doesn't work in my area). Other than that the laptop came bare bone with some useless software such as Wordperfect etc. I wish Dell included the XP Home Edition backup CD as I had to debug some minor bugs (Loading error etc.) The DVD quality is only OK. I guess I can't expect same quality of OEM laptops which are $200-400 more.
As my 1st laptop, I was disappointed with the speed. I guess I can't expect the desktop performance. The display is fine, but as all laptops the refresh rate is slow so the image takes little delay to pop up. The MacAfee Anti-Virus is nothing but nuisance as it constantly reminds to update.
The infamous Dell tech support is a joke. There is no way you can talk to a live person. I ended up getting more info from their BLOG.
Overall, I can't complain for $600, and pray it doesn't break down.
