I have recently ordered a Inspiron 600m notebook before Memorial Day Weekend and received it on Wednesday after the three day weekend (I ordered the free 3-5day shipping but I guess they were way ahead of schedule, this is the original plan, 2 days for order setup, 5 days build time, 3-5 day shipping, =10-12 days until arrival). I have bought it for a 8th grade graduation present for about ~$1520 (had a 20% off original price coupon, $1754 [ original price] w/o tax or shipping). Here¡¦s the setup:

- 14.1 SXGA+ Screen

- 24X CD-RW/DVD Combo Drive (modular bay)
- Weight Saver D-Module ¡§AIRBAY¡¨
- 60GB Hard Drive (4200 RPM)
Notebook Performance and such:
The performance on this notebook is OUTSTANDING! The graphics are UNBELIEVABLE! The notebook¡¦s weight is just a bit under 5LBS (w/ ¡§airbay¡¨). The Pentium M Processor is faster than my desktop¡¦s P4 2.66GHz processor. The battery life is very decent for a powerful notebook such as this. It gives about 3-4 hours of juice. The speakers aren¡¦t the greatest but it should be good enough for DVD¡¦s, MP3¡¦s, and common computing sounds. I don¡¦t see the problem people¡¦s complaining about the touchpad, after you set it up you should be satisfied. But if your like me and sometimes your hands get sweaty after a few hours of computing, the touchpad gets a bit laggy and slippery. And another problem people is complaining about is the heat under the left palm rest. It does get a bit WARM after a while, but definitely NOT HOT like people says (it gets HOT, especially under the notebook, maybe after 3-5 hours of computing). I don¡¦t know if this will help but, if you think it gets ¡§HOT¡¨ try moving the notebook beside a window or fan where there¡¦s good ventilation or something. Now back to the system, the Intel wireless card has a very good range, I have a NETGEAR 802.11b router and the speed and range are fabulous. I can get ranges ~700FT w/ the router being indoors. Dell does pre-install a lot of junk software which I simply uninstalled (instead of going through the hassle of re-installing WINDOWS). SOME of the software are OK to keep because they are SOMETIMES useful. Once your receive your notebook you should setup everything the way you want it (such as installing extra programs, setting its behavior, etc.) before you connect to the internet, after connecting to the internet, get ready to download a good 15 updates just for WINDOWS and a few more from DELL. The gaming on this system is above average, the only drawback is that the screen isn¡¦t that big especially for gaming. The SXGA+ screen is fantastic, its seems bigger than my 15¡¨ SONY LCD (XGA) because of its small print and such. the keyboard is very sturdy, trust me I put it through my own test¡Khaha¡KSo overall this system is perfect for mostly High School/College students who want decent gaming, sound, performance, etc. in a thin and lightweight package.
-----UPDATE-----
Its been 2weeks and 2 days since the arrival of this system and it was so close to being flawless. The flaw is that the video driver for this sytem wasnt supported for HALO. You are going to have to search the web for the driver updates and driver mod tools, if anyone is experiencing video problems due to the driver, comment on this review for my AIM screenname or email address. I will be more than happy to assist you on your(my past) problem.
The system is is as it was when it came. I will keep posting here on updates.
