| mclements's Full Review: Denon DRM-740 Single Dual Cassette Deck |
I own two of these decks. Both are over 4 years old and are used daily. I have them tuned every year (not needed but I'm a perfectionist when it comes to sound) and they still exceed the manufacturers specs despite thousands of hours of use.
This is the best sounding tape deck I have used. When using good quality tapes (BASF Reference Maxima II) and proper bias setting, the difference between the source & the original is very subtle.
It has the following features: dual capstans, 3 heads, Dolby HX Pro, B and C, fine bias control, frequency response from 20 - 20 kHz +/- 1 dB, up to 25 kHz at -3dB, S/N ratio of 70+ dB with Dolby C. This is how my decks actually measure after thousands of hours of use. Of course I clean & demagnetize them every week, which helps a lot.
This tape deck has excellent sound quality and is rock solid durable. The price is around $400 or less, which is a steal for a deck of this quality.
