| wenke1's Full Review: Dell Dimension 4400 (A-D0314) PC Desktop |
Shortly after Christmas my Compaq computer met its untimely death. Somehow my poor computer contracted a virus, leaving me in a terrible situation. Like a lot of people not only was my computer used for home, but I also ran my small business from this computer. Needless to say this devasted my business.
Finding a new computer was going to have to be fast decision, but one with a lot of thought put into it. After seeing all the cute Dell Commercials I decided to surf their Website, to do some research on a new computer. That is when I came across the Dell Dimension 4400 Series, not only was the computer in our price range, but it looked sleek and had a lot to offer for the price. The other nice thing about using the Dell Website to order your computer is you can fully customize your computer to fit your needs. From upgrading to a bigger monitor, upgrade the RAM, the GB, the mouse, warranty package, are just a few.
My Dell Computer:
Comes with a 1.6 Ghz Pentium 4 Processor these processors are one of the fastest available, the difference between my old Pentium II and the Pentium 4 was obvious from the first use. Next it was time for me to choose a CD Drive, now there is a lot to choose from. First you have the standard48x CD-Rom this is just your standard CD Drive. This will allow you listen to your CD’s and play CD ROM computer games but that it is. Then there was the CD-R and CD-WR drive so you can record onto CD’s, and with the CD-WR drive you also have the option of rewriting on a CD in case of a mistake. Then you could also add a DVD player to your computer, which is nice if you want to watch movies on your computer. Also there is a CD-WR/DVD combo this will allow you to record and rewrite over CD’s and also watch DVD’s. This is the one I chose, taking into account that my computer would also be used for home use. And having two girls and only one DVD player thought it would be a great investment.
With my old Compaq computer we had a huge memory problem, with it being used for a home business and personal use. We also added memory several times, and I felt I did not want to run into that same situation with this computer. Dell offers memory in 128 MB DDR SDRAM, 256MB DDR SDRAM or 512MB DDR SDRAM. Now with my needs I am sure I could of gotten away with 128 MB of memory but not wanting to take the chance I upgraded to the 256MB DDR SDRAM. While picking your computer out you can choose which size monitor and mouse will do for you, I chose a standard mouse and a 17” monitor. The floppy drive was a standard 3.5-inch drive.
My computer came with ADI 1885 Audio and Kardon HK-206 Speakers. Unlike my husband I not huge into Audio I can not even tell you where a woofer is, but I can tell you the sound coming out my speakers is crisp, clear and robust sound. When watching a DVD movie on the computer it almost sounds like surround sound, so we were very pleased.
This computer is truly an easy to use computer even for someone like me, who is legimate computer dummy. The Dell Website is easy to navigate, which allows it very easy to pick and choose to customize your computer. This computer would be a wonderful investment for a student, for a family or even a small business such as myself. The customer support service through Dell is also wonderful, they were friendly, easy to understand and aim to please their customers. Not being a computer buff, I hope I gave you an accurate portal of the new Dell Dimension 4400 Series computer.
