| ucanrefer2meas's Full Review: eMachines T2200 PC Desktop |
I purchased a T2200 as my first desktop computer. I was attracted to the large hard drive (100GB), nice stock of ram (512 mb ddr), and athlon xp2200 processor( runs at 1.8mhz with 266 mhz fsb). This computer runs windows xp very quick and very well. Boot up time is moderate and the 512 mb of ram let you run multiple programs with ease. One gripe I do have is the lack of an empty bay on the front of the case. I added a soundblaster audigy 2 platinum but I have no where to mount the external drive bay. Had I anticipated the purchase of this sound card, I may have bought a different machine. My next upgrade will be a video card (there is an AGP slot) but this will require a larger power supply than the 250 watt that came in the computer. They do not leave you much power to spare. There are two usb 1.0 ports and 2 firewire ports located under a door on the front of the computer. This is nice when transferring pictures or playing a game with a usb controller. There are 4 additional usb ports in the rear. The motherboard is capable of holding another hard drive if the 100GB is not enough but it does not support any RAID configurations. There are 4 available pci slots with a fifth one holding your standard 56k modem which works o.k. The computer comes with a standard keyboard and ball mouse and they are of better than average quality. The mouse tracks well and the keyboard has many windows keys and programmable keys. The on-board video is about as good as you can get using integrated and playback of DVD's is fairly decent and gaming is tolerable (S3 Prosavage8). Both the DVD rom and the CD burner perform well (both are sanyo) and it takes about 41/2 minutes to burn a cd. The small speakers that come with the machine are trash and should immediately be thrown away. The overall aesthetics of the T2200 are attractive, the case is easily accessible and this is a good product for the money. The software included is for the most part what everyone gets with windows xp with a couple additions. One is the Power DVD player, which sports three nicely tailored skins and is very user friendly and an automatic update alert for windows called the "Big Fix" which tells you of current revisions of patches and gives a link to download if you wish to. It should be noted that I have never used the tech support from e-machines so my "quality rating" below means nil.
