I must say, Blizzard has done it again! This game is by far the best that has been created so far! With 4 seperate acts of quests, in 3 different categories (normal, nightmare, and hell), this game does not get boring!
Blizzard created Diablo II from the advice of its diablo one users. They closed the realms (East, West, Asia, and Europe) so that hackers cannot mess the game up very easily. (Yes, it has been done, but they have been prosecuted.) And for those who just have to hack, they have allowed an Open realm in which all hacks are allowed. They made 5 different characters, each with special skills and special characteristics. There is an amazon, a sorceress, a necromancer, a barbarian, and paladin. Each character can go up to level 99, but as the levels get higher, the harder it is to level. Success of each character depends solely on how the character's skill points are built and the characters strength in various situations.
We got this game in July (as soon as the MacIntosh version was released) and we have not gotten sick of it yet! We still play just about every night and although Battle.net servers have been having problems now and then, with overloads or the servers going down, but what do you expect when they have over 40,000 people on average using the servers and in games? They are working hard to resolve the problems and even with lag, the game is fun =)
I won't go into too much detail about the game because you must experience it yourself to understand everything. You can play online with up to 8 other players in a room, or you can play by yourself offline. (Although an offline character can ONLY be played online in the battlenet open realm). Its interesting playing with other people and finding out where they are and its a LOT of fun to level your characters and upgrade them with found weapons and armor! The various finds can be rare or unique and trading channels are a big hit!
You will NOT regret the purchase of this game. Although your family might, as you'll end up spending way too many hours in front of your computer screen! And when you do play, find someone who you can trust, so that you can easily move your items from one player to another. I can't WAIT until the expansion set comes out! =)
