The Bottom Line: If you are a casual user this is highly recommended, for holiday's and party's it's fantastic. However do not get this camera if you need something packed with features.
kurtles's Full Review: Canon PowerShot A300 Digital Camera
Due to an impending holiday overseas, I was looking for a fairly inexpensive and easy to use digital camera, I didn't think I'd need anything particularly full of feature's, just something that would take a quick holiday snap, and for use at parties and special occasions.
I'm happy to say that the Canon Powershot A300 has lived up to these requirements and more, it's easy point and click functionality, simplistic but good quality movie mode, 32Mb Compact Flash card, 5.1x Digital Zoom, and 3.2 megapixels, make it good value for money for the inexperienced and less demanding user, another key note was the ease of connectivity to PC.
There are just a few drawbacks to this good value for money camera, the first negative is it's lack of optical zoom, however unlike some other reviewers I found that the camera's 5X digital zoom worked fine, and at such a bargain price you can't expect all of the functionality of a more expensive camera.
Battery life, is a major annoyance, I was amazed at how quickly the batteries that came with the camera ran out so fast, after playing around and taking a few photo's on the car trip back from the shop they were dead, this was quickly remedied however with rechargeable NiMH batteries which last many times longer, and they are a worthy addition if you wish to use the camera over a prolonged period.
Another minor complaint is the bulk and look of the camera which to me looks a little ugly, but hey it does the job and i'm overall very happy with what I got.
Notable extra's which make this camera even better are:
- Rechargeable NiMH batteries recharger.
- 128Mb or 256Mb Compact Flash card which will add to the amount of pictures you can snap.
