The entire S line had a pretty poor movie mode throughout the line... if you wanted to match it to the battery, the S80 is your best bet. Honestly, if you want to stay with a canon digital camera, pick up one of the A series cameras which use AA batteries. The A570 IS is around $179 new... probably better than the used price for an S50.

The perfect review (Reply to this comment)

I've had a S30, S40, and now am deciding between the S45 and S50 (used). I don't think I'll ever need the fifth megapixel (I already have a Digital Rebel XT), but I wanted a better movie mode on a camera that matches my equipment (nb-2l batteries, CF cards, and underwater case). Thx for your advice!

Thanks for the detailed review. I bought an S45 in Feb. '03 to take to our wedding in Hawaii. Loved it. My mother also liked it, so she paid me to buy her an S50 online but says she likes the S45's silver color better and asked if I would just give her my older camera and keep the S50. Who am I to say no to Mom? :-D
PS I bought the S50 for $429 at Newegg.com. I considered some of the other websites (Butterfly Photo, etc.) for $30-50 less, but I'd seen so many bad reviews here that I decided to be safe and hassle-free. Besides, I got free shipping, and it's only taken 3 days. Go Newegg.com! I paid $499 in February for the S45. Prices came down quickly.
