That is a definate possibility, especially if nobody else is having the same problems. I bought the camera open box, so all I got was a manual, flash card and the camera...no warranty card. Oh well.

I have found NimH battery life to be excellent (forget alkaline, as with all digitals). Must be something awry with your power circuit. Also, have not experienced problem with flash going off randomly. All in all I've been pleased, and yes, with its excellent lens this is capable of superb shots. I paid much more than $229 a couple of years ago so it really is a bargain for a 4.0 zoom.
