This camera rocks! I looked around before I got this camera and compared to the canon, olympus, and fuji 3mp cameras, this one just knocks them all out! The P72 has 3 megapixels, 3x optical zoom, picture and video effects, and takes the best videos for its generation.
Photos
The camera is set to take pictures in the "fine quality" setting by default. You have to play with the settings before you can set it to the lower "standard quality" setting. Outdoor pictures are excellent, but it's waterloo is poor lighting. If you are taking pictures of a nearby object in the dark, you will find a big round spot where the flash hit the object.
Videos
There are 3 kinds of motion capture files you can do.
1)Mpeg - you can take videos with audio in 640x480 or 160x120 resolution. The bigger setting is excellent for full screen playing. The best feature about it's movie recording is the fact that you can record until your memory stick is full.
I suggest you get the memory stick pro for this. I have a 256 mb mem stick pro and it has 247mb of actual memory. I also have a 256mb mem stick with memory select and it only gives around 237mb.
2)Clip motion - this takes 6 photos in succession
3)Gif - this takes up to 10 photos and makes a gif file out of them. I did a lot of creative things with this feature like displaying new gadgets by taking gif files!
A bit of advise about taking videos, you have to set your zoom BEFORE you start shooting. The zoom won't work while you are shooting videos.
One thing that upset me was how easily it got scratched. I kept it in a camera bag with my mini tripod and the camera got scratched easily. Sony's software bundle is frustratingly hard to use so I uninstalled it and opted to just download pictures and videos straight from my camera.
This camera has very few flaws and it is great for enthusiasts. I use it as a substitute for my video cam because it is easier to download and edit videos.
