| mike_d_pgh's Full Review: Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-P72 Digital Camera |
I've had this camera for about 15 months now, and I must have recommended it to at least 10 people in that time. When I went to purchase the camera, I had my heart completely set on a different one, an Olympus. From the specs I had researched on the internet, the Olympus was the better camera "on paper".
When I arrived at the store, I went directly to the Olympus....and quickly found out that the camera was very difficult to use....the salesman even had trouble figuring out simple tasks on the camera. Meanwhile, my wife had picked up the Sony, and was taking pictures, reviewing them, changing settings, and taking movies, all before the salesman and I could figure out how to view pictures that we had taken!
The Sony is EXTREMELY easy to use. It is very easy to take full advantage of this camera's features, which is a big plus in my book....why have the features if you can't figure out how to use them?
With only a quick review of the owner's manual, I was able to utilize every feature that the camera offered. A few months later, we purchased the same camera for my mother-in-law, who is NOT a gadget person, and she has been using the camera with no problems.
The picture quality of the camera is very good. I fly radio controlled model airplanes that fly in excess of 50 mph, and I have been able to take excellent action shots of planes in the air, and the zoom has been sufficient for these pictures. (you cannot get very close to the planes while in flight for safety reasons) The key to taking great action shots with the camera is to hold the shutter button down about half way, and pan your subject. When you hold the button down half way, the shutter speed is very fast. A friend of mine has a different camera, and is constantly missing pictures because his shutter is much slower.
The camera has had no problem in the 15 months that I've used it. Sony products have been very dependable for me in the past.
If I had one complaint about the camera, it would be the included memory card. At full resolution (3.2MP), the card will not hold many pictures. A memory card of at least 64mb is almost an essential upgrade.
If you're looking for a great, very easy to use digital camera at a good price, you can't go wrong with this one.
