My husband and I received this camera as a Christmas gift from my parents. It's the best little digital camera I've met yet.
We took a vacation earlier this year to Mexico and went a trip into the rainforests. While traversing through the trees the camera got caught on my husbands line and fell 80 feet to the ground. We were both devastated. We were certain it was a lost cause... and more devastating was the fact that ALL our pictures from our trip we on it. We weren't able to get to it right away, but our guide told us some of the other guides had gone back to get it.
A couple minutes later we were told there was good news and bad news. The good news: IT STILL WORKED! The bad news: the plastic bit that the handstrap hooks onto had completely ripped off. Heh. That's hardly bad news, comparitively, right?? Anyway, when the camera hit the ground, the memory stick had also popped out, so someone had to go back for that. We were pretty sure an inch of plastic on the rainforest floor was a lost cause, but remarkably they found it and it was also in perfect condition.
Now, I don't know much about technical things, but for the average person just looking for a good, reliable camera, this is the perfect camera for you. Clearly, you won't be starting a wedding photography business with it anytime soon, but it's easy to use and produces nice images. It's lightweight and small. The flash is ridiculously bright, even when on the low setting but we covered ours with a bit of medical tape to diffuse it a little and it's perfect now.
To sum up: if you climb trees, this is a great camera for you, because if you drop (and you know you will) it will LIVE!
