The Bottom Line: A camera that can snap some quality pictures without too much hassle. Price is reasonable, but needs a bigger smart card.

The Sny DSC P72 is a good camera. Good, not great. Picture quality is excellent as far as an amateur will tell you, has 3x optical zoom (a must) and comes with rechargeable batteries and charger, what more can you ask for? Theres even a respective Movie mode that captures MPEG movies with sound, as long as your smart card can hold it. So what more can you REALLY ask for? Small things mostly.
One, how about a lighter and smaller camera? This thing isn't exaclty a behemoth, it will fit in most places pretty nicely. However try carrying this thing in your jean pocket or a lower jacket pocket. The weight and size is quite a bit and you will start to notice as you walk around with this camera. Get a camera bag, it will help alot on vacations and long days.
Two, the camera only comes with a 16 mb smart card. Be prepared to shell out for at least a 64 mb smart card, which will hold a respectable 40 pictures at the highest quality. (The card they give you only holds 10 at a time!)
Three, there arne't many options for you to play with. You can't set your aperture or exposure time, and you can't zoom into pictures in replay mode. While these are small quips and something you shouldn't really expect from this amateur entry level based camera, they are still nice things to have for those of us who know a little bit about photography and don't want to be treated like technophobics who just point and shoot.
At the time I am writing this , Jan 05, the camera can be bought for around $200, a steal considering it comes with everything to get you started.
