| wolfcabrio's Full Review: Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-P72 Digital Camera |
Throughout the past 2.5 years, the camera has proven to be a well-functioning piece of photography equipment. This is the only digital camera that I have owned, but I have used many other models from Sony and from other manufacturers. It would be impossible to compare them all because as you are doing a comparison, a new product is released to the market. This model is a 3.2 mexapixel, which at the time, was a very competitive level of camera. Now it is the standard, and maybe even outdated compared to some. Dont be scared by the fact that the camera is a 3.1 megapixels, because it is a strong resolution category of camera still. The new cameras are now around 5 to 7 megapixel, but there is a diminishing return as the resolution goes up. Especially since the average user does not enlarge their prints to anything more than an 8x10. If you do make large prints, a higher resolution would serve you well. I have made many 8x10 prints with this camera and have experienced excellent resolution.
Positives-
The camera does withstand impact very well and is made of high impact plastic. I have experienced no cracks, scratches, breaks or anything of the type. The menu to file photos and make quick changes to format, size, and resolution is very user friendly. The small screen on the back of the camera is small, but very scratch resistant and sufficient in size. The zoom feature is quick and does provide a good level of enlargement. The chargeable batteries that come with the camera are great. They are good for a whole day of usage on the camera while taking many photos with the flash. It is incredibly efficient in how it uses power.
Negatives-
One drawback of the camera is that it does take 3-5 seconds to recover to be able to take another photo. Another drawback is that it takes a few seconds for the camera to power up and be ready to use. It is slow in generating the photo preview to see the photo you have just taken. The flash can be overpowering at times if photos are taken indoors.
