| ann_sheppard's Full Review: Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-P72 Digital Camera |
I'm just guessing at the price since it was a gift. My second digital camera, a gift from my husband last Christmas. I had a Fuji digital camera the first time around when digitals were just breaking into the average market.
In this price range, it is a great camera and the memory stick plugs right into our Sony TV to view pictures in larger than life size. Both digitals I've had take great pictures outdoors but seem to lack something indoors.
It takes normal AA batteries so there is never a problem. (Recently a friend spent a lot of time looking for her specific camera battery and will have to order it directly.) We use rechargeable batteries designed for digital cameras.
The software for downloading to the computer is simple to use. I have good editing programs and don't use the one which came with my camera so I can't really review that part. I have printed directly and easily from the software program. My old Fuji camera came with a Home Edition of Photoshop which I have updated. This camera just came with it's own basic program.
I purchased a USB hub which accepts many different types of camera type memory. My camera doesn't need to run, using battery power, when I download pictures. Friends and family can also plug in their memory devices to view their pictures on our computer.
If I had been purchasing a camera myself, I would have gone for a bigger view screen. At 57, my eyesight isn't what it used to be, making it more difficult to get the composition I really want. Looking through the traditional view finder doesn't show what you're going to get like the screen does. This screen does a little better with bright outdoor light than my first camera.
Using the setup and choosing things like red eye reducer, macro, etc. is on average with other cameras. All of my Christmas pictures were deleted with one button push on my old camera. That's not as easily accomplished with this Sony.
I've done a couple of short movies with it but still haven't figured out how to email them or make them viewable by someone else.
I've dropped this on carpeting a few times and still no problems - which is amazing. The part of the camera that allows for plug in to computer, DC, etc. just uses a rubber like flap which has to pop out and rotate. This seems flimsy and I have been very careful about using it.
