| nagels's Full Review: Dirt Devil M083000 Sweeper Vac Bagless Stick Vacu... |
My name is Spruce Wayne, clean floor fanatic. It’s not easy being inconspicuous as my alter ego Vac Man, clad in my body hugging nipple suit, black cape and mask, but a grime fighter such as myself does what he has to do. Thus I found myself stealthily slinking about in the aisles of buyout specials in Ollie’s Discount Store seeking out the Dirt Devil 083000. In the never-ending war against grime and dust, I was already heavily armed with seven vacuums, but Vac Girl wanted more. After a short, frantic search I saw the gleaming box on the bottom shelf tucked behind several larger vacs. Its bright red twelve-dollar price tag was a glaring beacon gripping my attention . Within seconds I tucked the box under my arm, checked out at the register while ignoring all the stares, and made haste to the Vacmobile. I glanced back to see if I was being followed because at such a price I felt I was “robin” them.
Vac Girl, usually posing as Mrs. Spudman, had been content with her little Bissell Catch All. (Stay tuned to this Vac Channel for a future review of this item.). It was light, it vacuumed her hardwood floors, and it even caught more grime with the attached Swiffer cloth. She was frustrated, however by its 15 minute battery life. As Vac Man I prowled the internet to find a back up Bissell battery and found that the battery itself would cost almost as much as a second Catch All. Buying a costly battery made no sense so I seized the opportunity to buy the diminutive Dirt Devil at less than half the price of a new battery.
Waiting several days to make sure the coast was clear, Vac Girl retrieved the Dirt Devil 083000 from the Vac cave, opened the box, and assembled it with a snap of the handle into the vac body. Vac Man’s help wasn’t needed. She connected the charger unit to a wall outlet, and plugged the charger end into the back of the Dirt Devil. Grime fighting would commence in 24 hours.
The War Begins
The Dirt Devil Sweeper Vac083000 stands about four feet tall. With its thin, sleek physique, it’s easy to maneuver along baseboards, behind and under furniture, and in all those little recesses in the Vac cave. Before operating lift the suction nozzle, attach a Swiffer electrostatic cloth, and push the suction nozzle back to the floor cleaning position. To operate no surgical degree is necessary. Hold down the vac power button located in the handle to turn the vacuum on. Release the button to turn the vacuum off.
Keeping the cheery power button depressed takes some getting used to, but Vac Girl says she’s mastered the technique and isn’t bothered by this requirement. I find it to be a bit of a nuisance, but this design probably conserves battery power to some small degree.
With hardwood floors in our living room, dining room, and hall, and Pergo in the kitchen, Vac Girl uses her Dirt Devil Sweeper almost once every day, sometimes twice. She likes the small size of the vacuum head and its ability to swivel side to side and up and down. After a few weeks the Dirt Devil became her vac of choice, relegating the Bissell to back up status. She thinks that the Dirt Devil has better pick up, gets into difficult places more easily, and allows for easier emptying of the dirt cup. I’ve observed firsthand that the dirt cup is very easy to detach and reattach to the unit. Vac Girl keeps her unit connected to the charger and plugged in when not in use so that it’s available at a moment’s notice to fight grime and spruce up the floor.
“The Royal Appliance Mfg. Co. warrants this vacuum cleaner to be free of defects in material or workmanship commencing upon the date of the original purchase. Refer to the vacuum cleaner carton for the length of warranty and save you original sales receipt to validate start of warranty period.” Sounds like a riddler to me. This unit is for dry pick up only.
