| metafedora's Full Review: Dual Electronics XDM-6800 Car CD/ MP3 Player |
i bought the dual xdm6800 from fry's for $99.99 to replace an oem stereo in my 1998 jetta. i chose this stereo because it was cheap, and i liked that it had auxiliary rca input so i could use my ipod's through the headphone jack. once i had it installed i realized it wasn't good for much else.
i performed the installation myself, which was straight-forward (a vw radio harness is required for radio use). i discovered that the cd player would skip when the car went over the slightest bump, which made listening to cds impossible while driving in the city. an annoying high-pitched noise occurs every time you skip radio stations. also, for some reason i could not get the scan feature to work - it wouldn't pick up any stations -so i could only change stations one step at a time, which takes forever.
the stereo was stolen last night, and when i replace it today i will be looking at other options.
